FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — As California has entered its fourth straight year of drought, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has announced a zero water allocation.
Mario Santoyo, of the Latino Water Coalition, says it’s a major blow to Central Valley growers.
He tells KMJ News, “It puts us in a much more difficult position than last year, because last year, everybody went to the wells. But, a lot of wells have failed, because you’ve taken a lot of water out. So, you’re going into a deficit condition, groundwater-wise.
The recent storms have helped some, and Santoyo says, “Everybody is under the hopes that there will be more precipitation, more snow.”
However, they’re prepared for another dry year, which means some fields could go unplanted.
